Stinger gives your rig a power
promotion at a modest cost. It also forms the foundation for the Stinger-Plus
and PowerPack. Banks Stinger removes the factory airflow "sins"
by addressing shortcomings in the stock intake and exhaust, greatly
improving airflow and turbo boost.
Banks inproves
Ram-Air intake, with a high-performance, lifetime air filter reducing
air-intake restriction significantly. Heavy-wall, 3 1/2-inch aluminized
Monster exhaust tubing replaces the restrictive stock exhaust pipe.
Insteadof crushed bends - which are bad on 2-wheel and worse on 4-wheel
drives - Banks maintains constant-diameter, gentle curves for the best
blow. A colossal 4-inch polished stainless tip tops it off. At the heart
of the Stinger system is Banks chambered, 3 1/2-inch outlet Dynaflow
muffler that produces minimal backpressure and an authoritative, yet
civilized, tone. Stinger also includes Banks DynaFact boost gauge and
pyrometer, which measueres exhaust gas temperature (EGT).

1989 to early 1991
With no factory intercooler on the early Dodge/Cummins 5.9 pickup trucks,
intake air temperature can exceed 375° F. For these model years,
Stinger-Plus adds Banks Techni-Cooler to the Stinger package. Banks
Techni-Coolers ensure maximum reduction in boost temperature with minimum
boost pressure loss, for a sizable power gain. Techni-Cooler's plate-and-fin
design also allows maximum, cooling airflow to the radiator, vital when
pulling heavy loads up steep grades. Banks Techni-Cooler has larger,
streamlined manifolding and a 50% thicker core than the factory's intercooler
for 1991 1/2-93s. TechniCoolers feature rubber shock mounts, constant-diameter,
cadplated steel boost tubes and flexible silicon hose joints. On '89-90
models, a custom chrome grille is included for proper fit and greater
airflow. The factory's grille on the early '91 pickups works fine as
is.
1991-1/2
to 1993
These Dodge/Cummins trucks are factory intercooled but have relatively
low boost. This Stinger-Plus upgrades the stock turbo with the Banks
Quick-Turbo wastegated turbine housing assembly. Quick-Turbo raises
boost for more power, cures turbo lag and broadens the power range.
Banks Quick-Turbo consists of a new turbine housing, turbine tailpiece
casting, turbine oil drain, 3-inch constant-diameter aluminized turbine
outlet pipe with heat-shield mounting brackets and 21-psi wastegate
actuator.

With the ultimate system, Banks PowerPack, you get everything. The PowerPack
combines all Stinger components with Banks Quick-Turbo and Techni-Cooler.
The Quick-Turbo wastegated turbine obliterates turbo lag and sluggish
throttle response - especially marked in the less powerful 1991 1/2-93
pickups - slashing the factory turbo's time to 10 psi boost by 81%.
Off-Road characterizes it "Like nailing the throttle on a fuel-injected
gas engine." Replacing the ineffective factory intercooler, Banks Techni-Cooler
intercooler provides 30% lower boost-air temps and 43% improved boost
pressure. All by itself, the Techni-Cooler raises rear-wheel horsepower
35% and torque 31%. "Quite a difference in performance for a bolt-on
item, diesel or gas!" is Off Road's assessment. PowerPack leaves nothing
on the table when it comes to optimizing early Dodge/Cummins. There's
nothing like massive torque and abundant horsepower to put you in the
Haul of Fame.
