brakes offer diesel truck owners who navigate downhill grades and mountainous
terrain the option of allowing the engine assist in slowing the vehicle.
Use of an exhaust brake greatly extends the life of the vehicle's factory
equipped service brakes. In short, an exhaust brake turns the diesel
engine into a giant retarding air pump.
Diesel exhaust
brakes are available in several different types depending upon your
personal preference. Some systems mount directly to the turbocharger
while others mount downstream of the engine in the exhaust system piping.
Both systems provide excellent vehicle braking, so the choice is which
system the customer is most comfortable with. Vehicles equipped with
automatic transmissions should consider the use of additional transmission
controls that assist with torque converter lockup for superior performance.
Both systems activate with the flip of a switch mounted on the vehicle
dashboard.
